Easy Tips to Navigate Marketing in the Days Before Christmas
The holiday season is a busy and exciting time for businesses, but it can also bring with it a number of marketing challenges. With so much competition for consumers' attention and limited time and budget, it can be tough to get your brand noticed and drive sales during the Christmas rush. After all, many ads are auctions and algorithms aren't just here for your interests.
One of the biggest challenges of marketing during the holiday season is the increased competition. With so many businesses vying for consumers' attention and dollars, it can be tough to stand out in the crowded marketplace. To overcome this challenge, it's important to focus on creating unique and engaging content that resonates with your ideal buyer persona(s). This can include creating holiday-themed blog posts, social media posts, and email campaigns that showcase your products or services in a festive and relevant way. In my experience, creating content that is less sales-driven in these areas can make a brand seem less aggressive and more likeable. On the flip side, we can then target these users via ads more aggressively.
Another common challenge during the holiday season is the limited time and budget that businesses have to invest in marketing efforts. With so much going on, it can be tough to allocate resources towards marketing campaigns, especially if you're a small business with limited resources. I cannot stress enough, the importance of planning ahead for events like Black Friday and Boxing Day. Make sure that you truly prioritize your marketing efforts and focus on the channels and tactics that are most likely to drive the best results for your business. You can do this based on historical performance as an indicator of potential success.
One way to make the most of your limited time and budget is to leverage the power of influencer marketing. Influencer marketing involves partnering with social media influencers or industry experts who have a large and engaged following. By working with influencers, you can reach a larger and more targeted audience, and potentially drive more sales and engagement with your brand. Just be sure to do your research and choose influencers who align with your brand values and target audience. While I think that influencer marketing as we know it in 2022 is unsustainable and won't last, we know that right now it's working and it's working best when it "feels" more organic.
Look, there's need to create a sense of urgency. With so many options available to consumers, it can be tough to convince them to choose you. I get it. One way to overcome this challenge is to offer limited-time promotions or discounts to drive sales. These can't be boring. They must be impressive.
Finally, it's important to be prepared for last-minute changes or setbacks during the holiday season. With so much going on, it's not uncommon for things to go wrong or for plans to change at the last minute. To overcome this challenge, it's important to have a contingency plan in place and be flexible enough to adapt to changing circumstances. This might involve having backup plans for your marketing campaigns or being prepared to pivot to a new strategy if necessary.
Even better than that: plan well in advance and have budget plans available.
The holidays can bring with it a number of marketing challenges, but with the right strategies and tactics, you can overcome these challenges and successfully market your business during the busiest time of the year. Whether it's creating engaging content, leveraging influencer marketing, or offering limited-time promotions, there are many ways to stand out and drive sales during the holiday season. Just don't be boring doing it.
